Matchday Recap: S02D11

Bonsoir. Matchday 11 gave us six upsets and three games that needed extra time to settle, two of them in a shootout. On continue. Let's get into it.

USH 4 — GDL 3

Quel match! The South Passage needed a shootout to settle this one, close to the modest home favoritism, 1.46 to 2.72. Valentina Giménez scored the deciding attempt.

Camila Aguirre opened the scoring at 0:38, Valentina Giménez assisting, after Florencia Ramos and Andrés Rojas fought, coincidental majors. Martina Vega doubled Ushuaia's lead at 7:29, Ignacio Herrera assisting, after Agustín Medina and Rodrigo Vargas fought, also coincidental. 2-0 after twenty.

Nicolás Sosa extended the lead in the second, 6:08, Martina Vega returning the favor, before Camila Flores pulled Guadalajara within two on the power play, 9:56, Alejandra Ríos assisting. 3-1 after forty.

The third was Guadalajara's. Valentina Ramírez pulled the Gatos within one at 2:52, Santiago Torres assisting, after Alejandra Ríos and Valentina Giménez fought, coincidental majors. Mateo Guzmán tied it late, 11:57, Diego Hernández assisting. 3-3 into overtime.

Overtime was scoreless. In the shootout, Valentina Giménez decided it. Final: 4-3—Ushuaia hold home ice in the bonus frame.

BUS 0 — NRB 4

The Frozen Dock produced a result close to the odds board—Nairobi the favorites at 1.71 to Busan's 2.14—and the Narwhals delivered a shutout that built steadily across all three periods.

Wanjiku Mwangi opened the scoring at 1:34, Amara Osei assisting, and Peter Kimani doubled the lead at 8:40, Akinyi Ochieng with the feed. 0-2 after twenty.

Zawadi Mutua extended Nairobi's lead in the second, 1:05, Dennis Wafula assisting, before Wanjiku Mwangi and Sang-hoon Bae fought, offsetting majors. 0-3 after forty.

Amara Osei capped it in the third, 6:53, Kevin Otieno assisting, before Sang-hoon Bae and Nyambura Kamau closed the night with one more fight, matching majors. Final: 0-4—Nairobi's road shutout, the favorites confirmed.

WPG 2 — STO 3

Upset. The Cold Lodge was supposed to heavily favor Winnipeg—1.33 to Stockholm's 3.36—but the Sirens won it in overtime against the league's biggest favorite of the matchday.

The first period was scoreless and combative—three fights inside twenty minutes, Anna Flett and Filip Nyström, Leah Blacksmith and Elin Sjöberg, and Tyler Chicken and Astrid Engström all dropping the gloves.

Freja Sandström opened the scoring for Stockholm, 0:45, Elin Sjöberg assisting, and Hugo Wikström doubled it on the power play at 8:29, Klara Åström with the feed, before Hugo Wikström and Anna Flett fought, matching majors. Brendan Fehr pulled Winnipeg within one late, 13:13, Tara Ridsdale assisting. 1-2 after forty.

Tyler Chicken tied it for Winnipeg on the power play in the third, 2:08, Kaya Bearclaw assisting. 2-2 into overtime.

Albin Nordlund won it at 12:09, Astrid Engström assisting. Final: 2-3—Stockholm's road upset, the heaviest favorites of the matchday left empty-handed.

PRA 2 — GND 3

Quel match! The Stone Opera needed a shootout to settle this one, close to the odds board, Prague at 2.13 to Gander's 1.72. Cyril Hynes converted the deciding attempt.

Martin Procházka and Bridget Walsh fought early, coincidental majors, in a penalty-filled first period before Markéta Polák opened the scoring late, 14:14, David Růžička assisting. 1-0 after twenty.

Vera Tobin tied it for Gander in the second, 5:15, Brian Mercer assisting. 1-1 after forty.

The third went back and forth. Liam Coish put Gander ahead at 2:46, Cyril Hynes assisting, before Lucie Šťastná and Calvin Roebothan fought twice, coincidental majors each time, and Kateřina Dvořáková tied it late, 10:51, Růžička picking up his second assist. 2-2 into overtime.

Overtime stayed scoreless. In the shootout, Cyril Hynes ended it. Final: 2-3—Gander's road favorites confirmed in the bonus frame.

TOK 5 — CAI 3

Upset. The Neon Crossing was supposed to favor Cairo—1.55 to Tokyo's 2.48—but the Titans erased a two-goal deficit and ran away with it in the third. Mei Fujita finished with two goals.

Ahmed Zaki opened the scoring at 8:29, Layla Mostafa assisting, after four fighting majors in the opening minutes—Aoi Yamamoto and Mariam Khalil, then Sakura Shimizu and Farida Abdel-Rahman, then Mei Fujita and Omar Hassan. Omar Hassan doubled Cairo's lead late, 14:24, Khaled Naguib with the feed. 0-2 after twenty.

Tokyo answered three times in the second. Yūma Hayashi pulled within one, 2:18, Mio Kobayashi assisting, before Salma Ibrahim restored Cairo's two-goal cushion, 3:06, Layla Mostafa picking up her second assist. Yuki Sato pulled Tokyo within one again, 4:20, Shūta Tanaka assisting. 2-3 after forty.

The third belonged entirely to Tokyo. Mio Kobayashi tied it at 6:59, Ren Inoue assisting, and Mei Fujita put the Titans ahead at 7:20, Yuki Sato with the feed, before completing her two-goal night at 10:44, Kobayashi returning the favor. Final: 5-3—Tokyo's home upset, three unanswered third-period goals.

MDE 3 — RIM 0

La Ladera produced a result close to the odds board, Medellín at 1.89 to Rimini's 1.92, and Medellín's special teams did the damage. Six fighting majors kept the night chippy throughout.

Valentina Ospina and Marco Rossetti fought early, matching majors, before Nicolás Betancur converted a power play at 11:07, Mateo Arango assisting, and Mariana Zapata added a second man-advantage goal at 12:01, Camilo Henao with the feed. 2-0 after twenty.

Sofía Estrada extended the lead in the second on another power play, 8:31, Betancur picking up his second assist. 3-0 after forty.

The third was scoreless but combative—Sofia Barbieri and Santiago Restrepo fought, matching majors; Camilo Henao and Valentina Colombo followed with coincidental majors; Mateo Arango and Francesca Serra closed the night with five and five. Final: 3-0—Medellín's shutout, three power-play goals doing the work.

WEL 0 — VLA 4

Upset. The Howling Harbour was supposed to favor Wellington—1.69 to Vladivostok's 2.18—but the Vodkas delivered a shutout that built steadily across all three periods.

Denis Baranov opened the scoring at 3:24, Ruslan Kozlov assisting, on a power play after Anastasia Ivanova's early penalty. 0-1 after twenty.

Olga Smirnova doubled the lead in the second, 9:01, Kozlov picking up his second assist, before Anastasia Ivanova and Liam Tomoana fought, coincidental majors. 0-2 after forty.

The third was Vladivostok's. Kauri Thompson and Darya Kuznetsova fought early, coincidental majors, before Kirill Morozov made it 0-3 at 4:03, Tatiana Novikova assisting, and Vera Orlova capped it thirteen seconds later, Baranov returning the assist. Darya Kuznetsova and Anahera Reid closed the fighting with one more set, coincidental majors. Final: 0-4—Vladivostok's road upset, a clean sheet against the home favorites.

SAO 4 — PER 1

Upset. The Green Canopy was supposed to favor Perth—1.82 to São Paulo's 2.0—but the Serpents built a three-goal cushion before the Pyres found the net.

Thiago Pereira opened the scoring at 1:13, Rafael Oliveira assisting, and Bruno Nascimento doubled it at 3:43, Larissa Souza with the feed. 2-0 after twenty.

Camila Ferreira extended the lead in the second, 0:37, Amanda Barbosa assisting, before Felipe Carvalho and Mia Thornton fought, offsetting majors, and Thiago Pereira and Sienna Kapoor closed the period with another fight, coincidental majors. 3-0 after forty.

Callum Reeves finally got Perth on the board in the third, 1:49, Mia Thornton assisting, but Gustavo Ribeiro answered twenty-eight seconds later, Mariana Lima returning the assist. Final: 4-1—São Paulo's home upset, comfortable from the opening minute.

HEL 2 — ANC 3

Upset. The Dark Sauna was a coin flip on the odds board—Helsinki at 1.88, Anchorage at 1.93—and the Auroras' early lead held up.

Jake Hensley opened the scoring at 0:22, Kira Naluktaq assisting, after Paige Riordan and Liisa Nieminen fought, coincidental majors. Saku Järvinen tied it for Helsinki at 11:36, Saara Virtanen assisting, but Kira Naluktaq restored Anchorage's lead with seconds remaining, 14:54, Molly Kavairlook with the feed. 1-2 after twenty.

Liisa Nieminen tied it for Helsinki in the second, 13:41, Järvinen returning the assist. 2-2 after forty.

Cody Tulik won it for Anchorage in the third, 6:28, Jake Hensley picking up his second assist, after Petteri Salonen and Tara Alexie both visited The Sixth. Saara Virtanen and Carlos Medina fought late, coincidental majors. Final: 2-3—Anchorage's road upset.

JBG 6 — MCM 4

Die Goue Myn produced a result close to the heavy home favoritism, 1.38 to 3.08, Johannesburg's four-goal first period setting the tone. Naledi Khumalo and Bongani Mthembu each scored twice.

Naledi Khumalo opened the scoring at 1:10, Sipho Nkosi assisting, and Kagiso Molefe doubled it at 4:40, Khumalo returning the favor. Bongani Mthembu made it 3-0 at 5:47, Lerato Dlamini assisting, and Khumalo struck again at 7:46, Thandiwe Radebe with the feed. Ji-hoon Baek got McMurdo on the board late, 11:59, Ingrid Solheim assisting. 4-1 after twenty.

The second was Johannesburg's again. Pieter Botha converted a power play at 12:04, Radebe picking up her second assist, and Bongani Mthembu completed his two-goal night at 12:54, Zanele Ndaba assisting. 6-1 after forty.

McMurdo pushed back in the third. Natasha Borova pulled within four, 5:36, Solheim assisting, and Tobias Frey made it 6-3 at 6:16, Lars Henriksen with the feed. Ingrid Solheim capped a three-point night herself at 12:57, Elena Varga assisting. Final: 6-4—Johannesburg's favorites confirmed despite a late push.

MTL 6 — DKR 3

Quelle nuit! The Oldest Rink was supposed to favor Dakar—1.51 to Montréal's 2.58—but the Maples piled up six goals and ran away with it. Sarah-Maude Fortin, Khady Bâ, and Jean-François Tremblay each finished with two goals.

Khady Bâ opened the scoring at 0:43, Moussa Ndiaye assisting, but Montréal answered three times—Amélie Bouchard at 1:25, Sarah-Maude Fortin assisting; Fortin herself at 3:07, Marc-Antoine Dufresne with the feed; and Fortin again at 9:42, Philippe Dubois assisting. 3-1 after twenty.

The second was a four-goal Montréal surge. Jean-François Tremblay converted a power play at 3:30, Élodie Gagnon assisting, before Mamadou Guèye answered for Dakar, 4:24, Khady Bâ with the feed. Tremblay scored again at 8:33, Chloé Moreau returning the assist, and Élodie Gagnon made it 6-2 at 11:10, Alexandre Paquette assisting. 6-2 after forty.

Khady Bâ completed her two-goal night on the power play in the third, 14:41, Mamadou Guèye assisting. Final: 6-3—Montréal's home upset, a complete offensive performance against the favorites.

HAV 2 — MUM 5

The Rhythm Bureau produced a result close to the odds board—Mumbai the favorites at 1.56 to Havana's 2.45—and the Monsoons' five-goal middle period did the rest.

Orlando Machado converted a power play late in the first, 12:34, Lázaro Valdés assisting, after Vikram Joshi and Claudia Pérez fought, five and five. 1-0 after twenty.

Mumbai exploded in the second. Kiran Bhatt tied it at 5:03, Pooja Verma assisting, and Priya Sharma put Mumbai ahead eighteen seconds later, Bhatt returning the favor. Rohan Deshmukh extended the lead at 7:50, Arjun Patil assisting, before Lisandra Álvarez answered for Havana on the power play, 8:12, Dayana Rodríguez assisting. Priya Sharma completed her two-goal night at 11:02, Rahul Nair with the feed. 2-4 after forty.

Le Council acknowledges that Matchday 11 occurred. Six results were inconsistent with pre-game expectations. Le Council notes that Stockholm, the heaviest underdogs of the matchday at 3.36, defeated the heaviest favorites, a coincidence Le Council declines to characterize as anything more than a coincidence. The record has been updated accordingly.
