Matchday Recap: S02D06

Bonsoir. Matchday 06 gave us four games that needed extra hockey to settle—two shootouts, two overtime winners—and six results the bookmakers didn't see coming. Quelle soirée chargée. Let's get into it.

STO 4 — SAO 2

The Still Strait produced a result close to the modest home favoritism, 1.88 to 1.93, Saga Ekström and Astrid Engström each factoring into multiple goals for Stockholm.

The first period was Stockholm's. Maja Forsberg opened the scoring at 2:07, Filip Nyström assisting, and Oscar Söderström doubled it fourteen seconds later, Saga Ekström assisting. Ekström herself made it 3-0 at 10:58, Freja Sandström with the feed, before Mariana Lima and Viktor Hallberg fought, matching majors, and Juliana Santos pulled São Paulo within two late, Amanda Barbosa assisting. 3-1 after twenty.

Astrid Engström extended Stockholm's lead in the second, 14:53, Klara Åström assisting.

The third saw Larissa Souza pull São Paulo within two again, 2:42, Bruno Nascimento assisting, but it was as close as the visitors would get. Final: 4-2, Stockholm comfortable from the first period onward.

GND 4 — NRB 2

The Waypoint produced a result close to the odds board, Gander at 1.90 to Nairobi's 1.91, Cyril Hynes the story with two goals and an assist.

Vera Tobin opened the scoring at 7:36, Cyril Hynes assisting, and Wade Bursey doubled it at 9:51, Tobin returning the favor. Cyril Hynes converted a power play at 11:16, Bridget Walsh assisting, before Zawadi Mutua and Wade Bursey fought late, offsetting majors. 3-0 after twenty.

The second was scoreless and hit-heavy on both sides.

The third saw Moses Okello pull Nairobi within two, 2:47, Zawadi Mutua assisting, before Cyril Hynes restored Gander's three-goal cushion at 3:31, Janice Hapgood assisting. Akinyi Ochieng and Vera Tobin fought, matching majors, and Samuel Njoroge added a late consolation for Nairobi, 13:55, Peter Kimani assisting. Final: 4-2, Gander hold on comfortably.

HAV 2 — MDE 3

Upset. The Rhythm Bureau was supposed to favor Havana—1.88 to Medellín's 1.93—but Medellín built an early two-goal cushion and held on through overtime and a shootout to steal the points. Sebastián Cardona scored the deciding shootout goal.

Daniela Mejía opened the scoring for Medellín, 8:49, Camilo Henao assisting, and Mateo Arango doubled it at 10:58, Nicolás Betancur with the feed. Yanelis Peña and Mariana Zapata fought late, matching majors. 0-2 after twenty.

Havana clawed back in the second. Yordanis Sánchez pulled Havana within one, 6:14, Claudia Pérez assisting. 1-2 after forty.

Lisandra Álvarez tied it for Havana in the third, 5:52, Adonis Reyes assisting. 2-2.

Overtime was scoreless. In the shootout, Sebastián Cardona converted to win it for Medellín. Final: 2-3—Medellín's road upset, settled in the bonus frame.

USH 0 — WEL 2

Upset. The South Passage was supposed to favor Ushuaia—1.86 to Wellington's 1.95—but a shutout, anchored by a second period with no recorded action at all, sent the Kahurangi home with the points.

Mereana Brooke opened the scoring early, 2:41, Charlotte Hemi assisting, before Aroha Ngata and Camila Aguirre fought, five and five. 0-1 after twenty.

The second was almost eerily quiet—nothing changed, the score held at 0-1, both sides seemingly content to regroup.

Liam Tomoana sealed it on the power play in the third, 13:41, Rāwiri Patel assisting. Final: 0-2—Wellington's road upset, a clean sheet for the visitors.

CAI 3 — PER 1

The Pyramid Basin hosted a dead-even matchup on the odds board—1.90 apiece—and Cairo's special teams and depth scoring made the difference, Mostafa Rashad and Layla Mostafa each adding a goal and a fight to their night.

Sienna Kapoor and Layla Mostafa fought early, offsetting majors, before Mostafa converted at 8:22, Tarek Soliman assisting. 1-0 after twenty.

The second saw Nate Hargrove and Nour El-Sayed fight, coincidental majors, before Zara Patel tied it for Perth, 13:49, Oscar Whitfield assisting. 1-1 after forty.

The third belonged to Cairo. Mostafa Rashad and Jack Mitchell fought early, five and five, before Farida Abdel-Rahman put Cairo back ahead, 3:38, Salma Ibrahim assisting. Mostafa Rashad sealed it at 11:00, Habiba Sherif assisting. Final: 3-1, Cairo edge a coin-flip matchup.

DKR 1 — WPG 3

Upset. The Sandy Parlor was supposed to favor Dakar—1.89 to Winnipeg's 1.92—but the Wendigos built an early lead and survived a fight-filled second period to hold it.

Fatou Mbaye and Curtis Favel fought early, coincidental majors, and Tara Ridsdale and Mamadou Guèye followed, offsetting majors, before Brody Flett opened the scoring, 6:18, Kaya Bearclaw assisting, and Jake Fehr doubled it at 12:08, Dylan Fife assisting. 0-2 after twenty.

The second was almost entirely fights—Leah Blacksmith vs Ibrahima Sarr, matching majors; Cheikh Fall vs Dylan Fife, coincidental majors; Jake Fehr vs Moussa Ndiaye, coincidental majors; Moussa Ndiaye vs Anna Flett, coincidental majors—four fighting majors inside the period. Curtis Favel still found time to extend Winnipeg's lead, 12:58, Leah Blacksmith assisting. 0-3 after forty.

The third saw Marissa Spence and Abdoulaye Touré fight, offsetting majors, before Aminata Sow got Dakar on the board late, 14:05, Mamadou Guèye assisting. Final: 1-3—Winnipeg's road upset, survived through a chaotic second period.

ANC 1 — BUS 3

Upset. The Watch Station was supposed to favor Anchorage—1.89 to Busan's 1.92—but Busan's third-period burst, So-hee Hwang and Jae-won Kim each with a goal and an assist, settled it.

So-hee Hwang opened the scoring at 2:00, Jae-won Kim assisting, for the only goal of the first.

The second was scoreless and hit-heavy.

The third saw Min-jun Lee extend Busan's lead, 3:04, So-hee Hwang assisting, and Jae-won Kim make it 0-3 just over three minutes later, Lee returning the favor. Kira Naluktaq and Hyun-woo Kwon fought, matching majors, before Levi Simmonds got Anchorage on the board late, 12:35, Isaiah Tobin assisting. Final: 1-3—Busan's road upset.

VLA 1 — JBG 3

Upset. The Last Terminal was supposed to favor Vladivostok—1.87 to Johannesburg's 1.94—but Lerato Dlamini's two-goal night, both set up by Lindiwe Sithole, sent the Jaguars home with the points.

Naledi Khumalo opened the scoring at 8:25, Lindiwe Sithole assisting, and Lerato Dlamini doubled it at 10:03, Sithole picking up her second assist. Jaco van der Merwe and Tatiana Novikova fought late, coincidental majors. 0-2 after twenty.

The second saw Denis Baranov pull Vladivostok within one on the power play, 13:04, Nikita Sorokin assisting. 1-2 after forty.

The third saw Denis Baranov and Jaco van der Merwe fight, coincidental majors, before Lerato Dlamini sealed it with her second of the night, 4:09, Lindiwe Sithole completing her three-assist game. Ruslan Kozlov and Thabo Mokoena closed the night with one more fight, coincidental majors. Final: 1-3—Johannesburg's road upset.

MUM 2 — PRA 3

Upset. The Salt Pavilion was supposed to favor Mumbai—1.88 to Prague's 1.93—but Prague answered twice from behind and won it in a shootout, Kateřina Dvořáková converting the deciding attempt.

The first period was scoreless and penalty-filled.

Martin Procházka and Pooja Verma fought early in the second, coincidental majors, before Rahul Nair opened the scoring, 0:41, Divya Mehta assisting. Barbora Králová tied it on the power play at 8:00, Adam Fiala assisting. 1-1 after forty.

Rohan Deshmukh put Mumbai back ahead on the power play in the third, 7:25, Priya Sharma assisting, but Martin Procházka tied it again, 12:19, David Růžička assisting. 2-2.

Overtime was scoreless. In the shootout, Kateřina Dvořáková converted to win it for Prague. Final: 2-3—Prague's road upset, the second shootout decision of the night.

RIM 1 — TOK 0

Quel match. The Coastal Pavilion produced a defensive slugfest—twenty-six hits and barely a scoring chance through three periods—that needed overtime to settle, close to the odds board, Rimini at 1.89 to Tokyo's 1.92.

The first two periods were entirely about the hits. Valentina Colombo led the way physically, fighting Hina Takahashi in the second, offsetting majors, while Yuki Sato and Elena Moretti had dropped the gloves in the first, also offsetting majors. No goals, plenty of bruises.

The third continued in the same vein—heavy forechecking from both sides, neither goaltender truly tested, scoreless after sixty.

Overtime ended it. Marco Rossetti scored at 3:48, Luca Ferretti assisting. Final: 1-0—a single goal to settle a night defined by everything but scoring.

GDL 2 — HEL 1

El Rincón Perdido produced a result close to the odds board, Guadalajara at 1.88 to Helsinki's 1.93, and it took overtime to settle.

Camila Flores opened the scoring late in the first, 14:59, Alejandra Ríos assisting. 1-0 after twenty.

The second was scoreless, Liisa Nieminen and Andrés Rojas fighting late.

Niko Mäkelä tied it for Helsinki on the power play in the third, 6:03, Jenni Laine assisting. 1-1 into overtime.

Rodrigo Vargas won it on the power play at 8:42, Daniela Salazar assisting. Final: 2-1, Guadalajara hold on at home.

MCM 4 — MTL 2

The Remote Range produced a result close to the odds board, McMurdo at 1.89 to Montréal's 1.92, three goals inside three minutes of the second period deciding it.

Marc-Antoine Dufresne opened the scoring on the power play, 5:06, Jean-François Tremblay assisting, before Elena Varga tied it for McMurdo, 11:23, Kofi Mensah assisting. 1-1 after twenty.

The second was decisive. Ingrid Solheim put McMurdo ahead, 1:13, Priya Anand assisting, before Catherine Lavoie tied it for Montréal, 6:36, Philippe Dubois assisting. Chris Elliot restored McMurdo's lead on the power play at 11:54, Ji-hoon Baek assisting, and Amira Hassan added a fourth less than a minute later, Elena Varga returning the assist. 4-2 after forty.

The third was scoreless. Final: 4-2—McMurdo bounce back from Matchday 05's collapse with a complete second period.

Le Council acknowledges that Matchday 06 occurred. Six results were inconsistent with pre-game expectations. Le Council further notes that four contests required extra hockey to produce a winner, and that Rimini and Tokyo combined for twenty-six hits and one goal, a ratio Le Council declines to comment on further. The record has been updated accordingly.
