This Week in Hockay: October 11th
Season 03 is over. Winnipeg Wendigos are its champions.
Today is the Rest Day. There are no games and no advisories. Le Council files the week's record because a record is not an announcement. Then Le Council will be quiet until tomorrow.
It was the week of the semifinals, the conference finals and the Final. It was also the week The Jambono left the ice, a bin was put on the counter, and Le Council and Graine Wetsky Funds agreed on something. Le Council reports all of it, then the week ahead, which is full.
The Final
The Final was played at 20:00 UITC yesterday at Graine Wetsky Arena, on neutral ice, in periods of one hour. It ended at 23:38. Winnipeg won it 13-12 in overtime.
Winnipeg scored three of the first four goals. Then Nairobi Narwhals scored four in a row, two of them twelve seconds apart, and led 5-3 after the first hour. Late in that hour Winnipeg took Michaela Flett out of the net and sent Cillian Byrne in cold.
Nairobi scored early in the second hour, for 6-3. Winnipeg answered with four in a row, and after the second of them Nairobi replaced Daniel Maina with Grace Achieng. The second hour ended 9-9.
Jake Fehr, a Winnipeg defender, scored his fourth goal midway through the third hour, for 12-10. Brian Kipchoge scored his fourth for Nairobi, for 12-11. Nairobi pulled Achieng for a sixth skater, and with one second left in regulation Nyambura Kamau scored on the power play. 12-12.
Overtime is sudden death. Curtis Favel, a defender, ended it twenty-one minutes and six seconds in, assisted by Tyler Chicken.
Twenty-five goals were scored. Kipchoge had four goals and two assists, more points than anyone else in the building, and lost. Leah Blacksmith and Amara Osei, who shared the scoring title, had one assist each.
Cillian Byrne came to Winnipeg from the unattached pool at the last S.H.I.F.T. He was the only signing that Tribunal registered. He played from the end of the first hour to the last goal and allowed seven. Winnipeg scored ten.
Thirteen citizens backed Winnipeg in the books. Five backed Nairobi.
The building recovered 3,458 kcups from the ice. All 3,458 went to the Funds. At Graine Wetsky Arena the Recovery Assembly is the building, and the boards stood bare all night. Le Council notes that this was in the building's terms. It was the first game the building has held.
Tokyo won Season 01. Medellín won Season 02. Winnipeg have won Season 03. A season ago, Medellín put Winnipeg out of the quarterfinals in two games. This week Winnipeg put Medellín out of the conference final. Nairobi had never played a postseason game before this one. They played eight, and lost two.
Winnipeg went 7-2 in the postseason and scored 57 goals against 29. Curtis Favel led the postseason with 14 points, seven goals and seven assists in nine games. Nairobi's Moses Okello and Winnipeg's Leah Blacksmith were next on twelve. All three are defenders. Le Council has now reported the defenders for six weeks. It has no account of them to give in Season 04 either.

Nairobi took La Conférence du Givre in two, 9-4 at The Ochre Reserve and 4-2 at The Golden Arch. Oslo finished first in the Givre. Nairobi went to the Final.
No team that arrived this season went further than Kyiv.
The Jambono
On the 7th, a cup of coffee reached The Jambono, and The Jambono resurfaced more than the ice. Le Council published what it knows.
Fifty-eight citizens were reached by the second pass. Each has an entry titled The Resurfacing on their ledger, and the Jambono-Cooked distinction. No citizen holding Ⱡ1,000,000,000 or less was touched. Nobody passed anybody.
Le Council has the figure for what the second pass removed. Le Council still declines to read it aloud.
B.U.T. has amended Run Deep. A ticket on a team now locks when that team's series faces off and reopens when the series is decided. B.U.T. paid its last tickets of the season last night: seventy-one on Winnipeg to win the Final, held by twenty-five citizens.
Beverages are prohibited within four metres of The Jambono.
The Bin, and the Counter
One Man's Trash, filed by Orangecheetah, was enacted on the 6th. C.A.R.D. now keeps a bin of every card that has been recycled and sells it back five cards at a time, as the Reblister. A card that comes out of the bin is the same card, with its own number. It is a little worse for the trip.
Since the 6th, 22 citizens have opened 1,231 Reblisters. Every one cost Ⱡ1,000. The bin has not yet grown rich enough to raise its price. Every Looney paid for a Reblister was burned.
Le Blister des Séries left the counter with the Final. 617 were bought by 46 citizens. The last was bought at 19:55 UITC yesterday, five minutes before the opening faceoff. Fifty-four are still sealed. They still open.
La Caisse has sixteen citizens on the roll, up from fourteen.

The Sheet
The postseason took the boards down with it. 46,019 kcups came off them this week, across seventeen games, against 515,561 the week before. Citizens bought 26,871. The Funds took 19,148, which includes all 3,458 from the Final. The Funds' holding stands at 1,150,263 Ⓚ.
The parishes consecrated 10,260 Ⓚ in six offerings, down from 217,891. Forty-three citizens attended parish.
Series ∞
On the 9th, Le Council and Graine Wetsky Funds agreed on two findings: there are not enough shares, and nobody knows what the ones that exist are worth. They agreed to let the citizens decide.
From Season 04, every team issues new shares every week, sold by sealed bid. Each round puts up five percent of every register. Each citizen pays what they bid. The median of the winning bids moves the price, and the price sets the fair value. S.L.U.S.H. does not print. S.L.U.S.H. settles.
When Round 4.0 resolves, the prices on the board will fall, in places by more than ninety-nine percent. What a citizen is worth will not fall with them. Le Council said so on the 9th. Le Council says it again here, so that nobody reads it for the first time on the 25th.
The Petitions
One Man's Trash was enacted on the 6th, as above.
Two filings opened this week. Creation of HOCKAY TODAY FUNDS, filed by Tiinyhandz, asks Le Council to authorize a competing institution under the banner of Hockay Today. It stands at 20 of 99 Seals and Ⱡ80,426,752,583 of a Ⱡ1,000,000,000,000 floor, with until the 30th of November. Le Council's note on opening it ends: "Le Council reminds all parties that power has always resided somewhere. The Almighty Ice has not indicated where."
The Ultimate Prediction Bracket Prize, filed by Geodun, asks that a citizen who predicts a whole postseason correctly may ask The Puck one question, to be answered yes or no. It stands at 2 of 300 Seals, has cleared its Ⱡ20,000,000,000 floor, and has until the 31st of December. Le Council's note begins: "The petition is brief. The approval will be too." Le Council has said that it can ask The Puck. It has not said that The Puck will answer.
Two more remain open. On the Matter of Idols stands at 213 of 250 with until the 1st of November. Hockay "The House" stands at 120 of 150, has cleared its floor, and expires on the 16th. It needs thirty Seals in five days.
One filing awaits review.
A Note From O.D.D.S.
Citizens settled 392 bets this week and staked Ⱡ118,910,195,895. The book returned Ⱡ103,092,031,827.
O.D.D.S. does not speculate. O.D.D.S. calculates. O.D.D.S. gained Ⱡ15,818,164,068. Last week it gained Ⱡ19,068,174,798.

The Tribunal
The S.H.I.F.T., the Seasonal Hearing on Interclub Formations and Transfers, is held by T.R.A.D.E. Each front office files to move one player for one player, in the same seat. The team's shareholders vote. The Tribunal registers what survives. T.R.A.D.E. registers movement. It does not authorize it.
All forty-eight front offices file this time. The twenty-four teams that arrived this season had no front office at the last sitting. They have one now. Busan and Helsinki file too. Nothing in the S.H.I.F.T. protects a Stewarded team.
The Tribunal sits in two rounds of three days. Every filing in a round closes at the same instant, whichever day it was made. A player released to the unattached pool in round one may be signed by another team in round two.
The rule has not changed:
A filing falls only if holders of at least half the team's shares actively reject it. A shareholder who says nothing is recorded as having approved.
The roll of voters is frozen when a filing opens. Shares bought afterwards carry no vote on it. Graine Wetsky Funds does not vote.
At the last sitting, forty-nine filings reached a vote and sixteen were registered. One of the sixteen was a signing from the unattached pool. It was Cillian Byrne.

The All-Stars
- Game I, Monday at 20:00 UITC. All-Stars Verglas host All-Stars Givre at The Red Furnace, Perth.
- Game II, Tuesday at 20:00 UITC. All-Stars Givre host at The Gulf Waters, Oman.
This season each team sends one player at most. A conference has twenty-four teams and a squad has fifteen seats, so nine teams in each conference send nobody. Skaters were chosen on regular-season points, and goaltenders on save percentage. The hosts were drawn.
Oman Orcas host Game II and send nobody to it. Perth lost the Wildcard at The Red Furnace. They send Tahlia Nguyen, the only forward among the regular season's top sixteen scorers, to play Game I there.
Leah Blacksmith of Winnipeg and Amara Osei of Nairobi shared the scoring title. Each plays on the first defence pair, on opposite sides, two nights after the Final. Valentina Colombo of Rimini, third, plays beside Osei.
Neither game touches the standings, the bracket or any team's record. The books take wagers on both, from each game's page.
The Dividend
S.L.U.S.H. pays a dividend at the close of each season, weighted by how far each team went. It is paid on holdings as they stand at the minute the Tribunal convenes. A share bought after that minute does not collect on Season 03.
The Eve
On Sunday the 18th the rosters are public and the Season 04 schedule lands. Three things take effect the same day.
- Round 4.0 is posted. It takes no bids until Season 04 opens, on Monday at 00:00. Bids lock on Saturday the 24th. The round resolves on Sunday the 25th.
- The ceiling becomes ten percent. Le Council reads each citizen's team off the register and writes it down. One team may be yours. Everywhere else, the ceiling is ten percent. No holding is unwound.
- Busan and Helsinki play their home fixtures at Graine Wetsky Arena. That is §6 of the Schedule their registers aligned under. The Final was the first game the building held. It will not be the last.
That is the week. Winnipeg won Season 03 by one goal, in overtime, from a defender, in a building no team owns, on ice that gave every shaving to the Funds. Nairobi tied it with one second left and had never played a postseason game before this month. Kyiv went further than any team that arrived this season, and Oslo went out to them. The Jambono resurfaced fifty-eight citizens, and nobody passed anybody. The bin opened and sold 1,231 packs at the price it opened at. Le Council and the Funds agreed that there are not enough shares, and that the citizens will set the price of the next ones.
Tomorrow the Tribunal convenes and the All-Stars play. On the 19th, Season 04 begins.
Stick around.
