Add a visualization of who's on the Ice and who has the Puck

ADMITTED TO THE PUBLIC ROLL

Le Council has reviewed the petition and finds it consistent with our standing commitment to the visual representation of The Ice and all that transpires upon it. It should be noted that the Research and Development division of H.O.R.N. has not been idle. A prototype exists. It is early. It is, by most accounts, barely functional. Testing is ongoing and results have been described internally as "promising, given the circumstances." Public deployment remains a distant horizon. To that end, Le Council is pleased to formally recognize this petition as the foundation for a crowdfunding effort. Contributions made through this petition will fund the work required to move that prototype from "technically running" to something fit for The Ice. The community has asked. Le Council has heard. The path forward is real, if not yet paved. The Ice is watching. So should you.

Acknowledgment

This idea was first raised in this Discord thread and I want to make sure it gets proper consideration. Credit where it's due.

I'm adding my name to it here because I think it's worth a formal look.

What we'd like to see

This doesn't need to be a precise simulation or a real-time animation. Something simple would go a long way: a top-down view of the ice showing which players from each team are currently on it, and an indicator for who has the puck.

Exact positions aren't the ask here. Just presence. Who's out there, and where the puck lives right now.

Why It Matters

The live feed is already great at telling me what happened. But right now, between events, I have no sense of the state of the ice. It's a scoreboard without a field.

A visual like this would:

  • Make it immediately obvious which players are active at any given moment
  • Let puck possession land with actual weight — you'd see it shift
  • Give the feed a sense of place, not just a timeline of events
  • Make player modifiers and lineup changes feel more legible in real time

Hockay has so much going on — rosters, modifiers, The Sixth pulling players out of reality — and a lot of that happens on the ice. A field view would make all of it more readable at a glance.

Notes

  • Exact player coordinates don't need to be tracked or stored — even a zone-based or abstract layout would work
  • Could be its own panel alongside the feed, or a collapsible component
  • Doesn't need to be animated; a state-snapshot that updates between events would be enough

Le Council is encouraged to take this under advisement. The ice deserves to be seen.
