The Julius Caesar Petition (or, the Removing Ineffective Team Owners and Stripping them of their Shares Petition)
Le Council has reviewed this petition and paused to note that the petitioner has proposed a mechanism by which they themselves could lose their holdings in the Amsterdam Aardvarks with no compensation. Le Council respects this enormously. It is not often that a majority shareholder arrives at Le Council's door asking for consequences. The proposal is straightforward: poor performance, a fan vote, and the possibility of uncompensated share forfeiture. The risk is real. The petitioner has acknowledged it is real and asked for it anyway. Le Council finds this to be the correct spirit. There are, naturally, questions to be resolved before enactment — what constitutes the majority shareholder, how fan voting eligibility is determined, what becomes of shares returned to the exchange, and whether the bottom eight threshold is the right line. These are matters for a later notice. For now, the petition is opened for public appraisal. Citizens who believe ownership should carry weight are encouraged to sign. The Amsterdam Aardvarks' majority shareholder has already said they agree.
My fellow Hockay fans,
For too long, the wealthy have ruled with impunity. What if we, as fans, had a way of voting them out if a team suffers under their ownership? And what if, if such a vote were to pass, their shares were stripped from them, meaning they do not get to just walk away with a fat wallet to try again?
I am suggesting exactly such a system. At the end of a team's season, if they were to place in the bottom eight of a league, the fans of the team would be able to vote on whether or not to hold the majority share owner accountable for the losses. If the vote passed, the shares would be taken and placed back in the exchange with no compensation to the previous owner.
I am suggesting this not only as a fan, but as the current owner of the Amsterdam Aardvarks. I am suggesting this as someone who wants risk associated with my position. I should not sleep peacefully if my team does poorly, knowing that there is no real risk to my wealth.
(Also, this would allow for more frequent transfer of shares and team leadership if there is risk associated with owning the most of a given team, possibly preventing one person from permanently holding their position.)
With my piece said, I leave this petition in your hands.
