The Lagoon Circuit is the most remote arena in active league play, and Le Council notes—as it has learned to note—that The Almighty Ice has always been drawn to the places one would least expect to find it. The ice is of the verglas form. Under the Swell designation, scoring probability is elevated for both teams: The Lagoon Circuit produces more goals than the math allows, and the assessment team's explanations all begin with something about the water. The arena seats six thousand seven hundred. The assessment team reports that every seat is treated as sacred, and that after a week on site they had come to agree. The Tsunami play beautiful Hockay in a paradise that should not contain any. It contains this.
The Building
Built out over the lagoon on a platform of pale timber, ringed by water on every side and reached by a single causeway that is submerged at the highest tides and used anyway. The roof is a shallow inverted curve of woven panels on a laminated frame, open at the eaves, and the light that comes in off the lagoon is thrown up into it and back down onto The Almighty Ice in a moving pattern the assessment team described as the reason its instruments were late. The 6,700 seats are timber benches, unnumbered, and are occupied by arrangement rather than by ticket. Through the ice, in good light, the lagoon floor is visible. Le Council has confirmed that the ice is of regulation thickness and has not attempted to reconcile the two observations.
