The Ice Sheet
Lore
Greenland is, by surface area, mostly ice, and the assessment team reports that The Almighty Ice arrived there and gave every indication of relief. The ice is of the verglas form. Under the Blanche designation, the total whiteness of The Ice Sheet reduces visiting pass accuracy: everything is obscured, and the Nanuqs are the only ones who know where they are. They are slow, powerful, and patient in a way that makes the visiting team feel hurried. Home games at The Ice Sheet end sooner than the visitors expected them to, a discrepancy Le Council's timekeeping office has confirmed exists only in the accounts of the visitors. The Nanuqs do not announce themselves. Neither does the thing the arena is named for.
The Building
White on white on white. The structure is a low shell of pale composite panels set flush into the snow, so that from any distance the only evidence of it is a horizon line slightly straighter than the one beside it. Inside, the walls, the roof, the boards, the seats, and The Almighty Ice are within a few degrees of the same value, and the lighting is diffuse and shadowless by design. There are 3,100 seats, the second-smallest capacity in the league, and no signage of any kind in the seating bowl—Le Council's accessibility office objected and was answered with a photograph. Depth perception in the building is unreliable for the first twenty minutes and then, per most accounts, stops being a problem, because visitors stop trying. The Nanuqs are white as well.
