This Week in Hockay: May 3rd
This first week in Hockay had everything: doors opened, bets were made, Looneys were won, Looneys were lost, gloves were thrown,...
No one would blame you for losing track of everything happening this week. Le Council has kept records. Here are the highlights:
Watching the Games
The Live page is now operational. It displays the current game in progress, or the next games coming up if nothing is live.
H.O.R.N.—The Hockay Official Relay Network—has also expanded its mandate. It now fires at game start. It fires when a penalty is assessed. It did not do these things before this week. H.O.R.N. does not explain itself.
Jean-Michel Laflèche is now calling passes. This is a deliberate expansion of the play-by-play. JM treats each pass as he treats everything else: with warmth, with precision, and with no acknowledgment that anything unusual is happening on the ice. The broadcasts are more detailed now. Some fans have described them as livelier. Le Council is aware that this is, for JM, a meaningful compliment.
Betting Updates
Multi-bet support went live on Matchday 03. You can now build a wager across multiple games—combine picks, compound odds, and accept the full emotional range that follows.
Betting cards now display American-style odds. Favorites show as negative figures (–150, –220). Underdogs show as positive (+180, +340). The implied probability is baked into both. O.D.D.S. generated these lines. We trust O.D.D.S. to the extent that we trust anything.
Cards also now display each team's current record. The information was always available. It is now visible without navigating away. These are not the same thing.
The personal ledger now links directly to each bet. The expanded view shows outcome, odds at time of placement, and settlement details. Bets resolve automatically at the end of each matchday. If something fails to resolve, contact O.D.D.S. If O.D.D.S. does not respond, contact Le Council. If Le Council does not respond, assume The Ice is involved and wait.
The Standings Are More Complete Now
The standings table was rebuilt. It now shows a breakdown of points for team benefiting from a double or nothing bonus
Fan profiles now display win rate. This number reflects your betting record across all settled wagers. It is accurate. Whether accuracy is what you wanted from your fan profile is a matter Le Council leaves to you.
From the Community
Le Council did not plan for everything that happened this week. That is, in part, the point.
Hockay Today is a community podcast that launched this week, covering the games as they happen: recaps, predictions, and discussions that Le Council has not been asked to authorize. This is correct. Le Council does not authorize discussion. Discussion occurs. We recommend listening. The hosts have opinions about the Montréal Maples that Le Council finds either prescient or alarming. Possibly both.
Contributor auditions are open. The community is now able to apply to contribute to Hockay—writing, lore, creative work, and things that do not yet have names. Le Council is reviewing submissions. The bar is not low. The bar is, however, legible. Watch for the announcement.
The first wave of Super Fans has been awarded. On Discord, Le Council recognized the fans who showed up earliest, engaged most thoroughly, and generally behaved as though Hockay mattered before anyone could confirm it did. They were right to behave that way. The Super Fan distinction is recorded. It does not expire. The Ice has noted who arrived first.
That was the first week. Games continue. The Horn sounds. JM calls the passes. The standings shift. The Looneys move.
Le Council is watching, documenting, and occasionally confused. This is the expected state.
Stick around. More to come for Hockay.
