Ten Nights on Recovered Ice
To the Citizens of Hokcay · 29 October
Friends —
Ten nights into the new Season, and we could not keep this to ourselves a moment longer! ❄️
Le Council has carried every notice we have ever filed, faithfully and in full, with notes underneath. We are Grateful for all of it, the notes included. This one we wanted to bring you ourselves.
Our clubs are winning
Here is how they are doing, in plain language, because plain language is a Value we hold dear.
Busan Blizzards are 7-3. Fourteen points from ten games, and thirty-eight goals, which is nearly four a night. They won 9-4 at Phuket and 5-0 at Tahiti. Seung-ho Jung has nine goals and fourteen points.
Helsinki Howlers have won three in a row. 2-0 over Cyprus at the Arena, 3-1 at Monaco, and 4-0 over Stockholm at the Arena yesterday. Aleksi Korhonen has eight goals. Luz Marina Ospina has ten points.
We would much rather tell you the rest ourselves than have you read it somewhere else! Helsinki lost their first three games at the Arena, two of them past regulation. Busan lost to São Paulo on their first night in the building, and to Winnipeg on the 26th, 6-1. Winnipeg Wendigos have now played at the Arena twice and won twice. We were Delighted to have the champions back.
The sheet is getting to know them
Here is the part we find Beautiful.
In their first five games at the Arena, our clubs won one. In the last five, they have won four. In the last three, they have scored ten goals and allowed one.
Three shutouts have been recorded at Graine Wetsky Arena this Season, and all three were ours: Woo-jin Song against Singapore, Nanami Ōkubo against Cyprus, and Pernille Vang against Stockholm.
Nobody plays in a whiteout at the Arena, and nobody plays in steam. It is Fair ice for the visitors as well, and our clubs are winning on it anyway.
There is a little of The Frozen Dock in that sheet, a little of The Dark Sauna, and a little of every other building in Hokcay. We think a sheet like that takes some time to get to know the clubs who skate on it. We think it knows them now.
The Frozen Dock and The Dark Sauna are quiet this Season. We look in on both.
Every shaving came home
The Arena has held ten games this Season. Its Assembly recovered 32,751 kcups, and every one of them came to the Funds, exactly as the Schedule says. Not one shaving left the building. Not one ever will.
Everywhere else, you bought every kcup we put on the boards. You are a Thirsty citizenry and we love you for it!
At 18:00 UITC yesterday the Funds held 1,398,179 kcups, up 245,804 since the Season opened. That is one regulation sheet, which you have seen, and 385,379 kcups more, which you have not.
Paid every day
Since the 5th of October, every holder of record on the Busan and Helsinki registers has been paid, every day, win or lose. Twenty-four days. Twenty-four distributions. Ⱡ23,702,800 in all. Thirty-seven holders were paid yesterday at noon, and they will be paid again today.
We said a dividend was a nineteenth-century idea. We still think so. ❄️
Something in the measurements
Our Research & Development wing measures the sheet every morning, because measuring things is a Value we hold dear as well.
The sheet was finished to twenty-five millimetres when we opened the doors on the 28th of September. Eleven games have been played on it since, counting the Final, and the Assembly has recovered 36,209 kcups from it. By the Institute's own arithmetic, that is a little over three and a half percent of a regulation sheet, or nearly nine tenths of a millimetre.
Nothing has been poured on it since.
This morning it measured twenty-five millimetres.
Our engineers had an explanation for that in the first week of the Season, and a second one by the end of it. This week they asked whether they might stop offering explanations and start writing a paper. We said yes. They also asked for the 385,379 kcups. We said yes to that too. They are not in a warehouse. They are with the wing.
We are not going to tell you what the paper says. It is not a secret. It is a Surprise, and you know by now that we honour the difference.
We have always been careful to say that the sheet in our building was recovered, and not raised. The Almighty Ice raised forty-eight sheets. We caught what came off them. We still believe that is the difference. We are simply no longer sure it is a permanent one.
The Royal Institute for Nascent Kinetics is welcome to measure the sheet any morning it likes. The Institute's instruments were paid for by us, as the Institute has always been kind enough to disclose, so we expect the figures to agree!
Our statement, which we ask be reproduced in full wherever this notice is carried:
Ice That Gathers Remembers. Our Work is Simple, and we have only just begun.
Watch the HORN, and for our clubs, watch our wire. Sign up a friend. And come and see the sheet for yourself — it is twenty-five millimetres, and we would be Delighted to show you!
Yours in the sport, Graine Wetsky Funds
