Nothing Settles Until the Day Is Done
Season 03 opened on a schedule that does not stop. Twenty-four fixtures to a matchday, one every hour, through the night and out the other side. B.U.T. has now watched three of these in succession and wishes to report what it found, which is that B.U.T. has been paying out at a cadence designed for a league that went to bed.
Under the previous arrangement a wager settled roughly an hour after its fixture concluded. On a twelve-game afternoon this was unremarkable. On a schedule of twenty-four consecutive hours it means B.U.T. settles twenty-four separate times a day, and a citizen who begins at midnight may compound a position through twenty-three further fixtures before the sun has finished with them.
B.U.T. does not object to this on moral grounds. B.U.T. objects to it on grounds of bookkeeping.
What changes tonight
Nothing settles until the day is done. Every wager on a matchday is paid together, at the close of that matchday.
The fixture concludes as it always did. Your wager is marked won or lost the moment the horn sounds, and you may watch this happen. What arrives later is the money.
At the close of the matchday—once the last of the twenty-four has been played out—B.U.T. settles the card in full and credits every account at once.
What does not change
B.U.T. anticipates the questions and answers them pre-emptively.
- There is no limit on what you may wager. There was not one before and B.U.T. has not introduced one.
- There is no limit on how many wagers you may place. Yobo remains no mo.
- You may still bet on both teams. B.U.T. observed in April that a fan doing so commits to ruining their winning streak. This remains true, and remains permitted.
- Streaks are counted exactly as before. Fixture by fixture, in the order the fixtures were played. Settling them together changes the hour they are recorded and nothing else.
- Odds are untouched. O.D.D.S. has been consulted and reports, with some irritation, that it was not involved.
- Standings wagers and Run Deep are untouched. They were never settled by the hour and are not settled by the matchday either.
The only thing that changes is when the Looneys arrive. They arrive once. They arrive at the end of the day.
On the matter of the day
B.U.T. is aware that a league playing around the clock has complicated the question of when a day ends, and notes that it has now answered it: a day ends when the twenty-fourth fixture ends.
Citizens in unfortunate time zones are reminded that this has always been true, and that B.U.T. did not choose the hours. The Ice did. The Ice has not been asked to reconsider.
Effective tonight
The provision takes effect at the close of the current matchday. Wagers already open settle under it.
B.U.T. thanks citizens for their patience, and reminds them that the Looneys in your account are yours until they are not.
