The Sixth… Player?

RULING OF LE COUNCIL

Le Council has, in accordance with the will of the citizenry, dispatched formal notice to all teams informing them of this strategic option. The option exists. The teams have been told it exists. What happens next is entirely at the discretion of each team's staff, and Le Council wishes to be clear that it cannot compel, instruct, or in any way guarantee that teams will elect to deploy a sixth attacker, nor that they will do so at a sensible moment. Le Council has fulfilled its obligation. The rest is Hockay.

It has become well known that there exist six dimensions*. But often overlooked is that in Hockay, there are also six players. Bear with me for a moment and imagine this:

The McMurdo Monoliths trail by one with just over two minutes left on the clock. Yumi Takeda wins the face-off and… what’s this? The Monoliths goalie, Nikolai Brandt, is skating off the ice, and Kofi Mensah comes on! A six-on-five! They go on the attack, Ingrid Solheim with a quick pass to Sven Lindberg. He shoots… he scores!!! The Monolith have tied the game, and it looks like we’re going to overtime.

The Proposal

Allow a team to pull their goalie in order to put an extra attacker on the ice. This would greatly increase their offensive play and chances of scoring, at the cost of being even more likely to give up goals. Teams would traditionally do this late in the game when losing by a small margin, but who knows when else Hockay teams might decide to pull their goalies.

*it is at least know that there exists a sixth dimension. To our knowledge, the existence of the fourth and fifth dimensions have not yet been confirmed, but their existence is strongly implied.
